Muhammad and Jesus

Muhammad and Jesus

What are the Muslim views of Jesus and Muhammad?

2 min read

According to Islam...

  • Jesus was a prophet and the Messiah, whereas Muhammad was the last prophet.
  • Jesus did not die, because God spared him, whereas Muhammad died from poisoning.
  • Jesus was born of a virgin. Muhammad was not.
  • Jesus preached the gospel, and Muhammad was sent the final message.
  • Jesus was sinless, and Muhammad had to ask for forgiveness 70 times a day.
  • Jesus made the blind see, raised the dead, etc. Muhammad's only miracle was said to be the beauty of the Qur’an.

Fulfilled Prophecy

It is said that Muhammad fulfils prophecies from the Bible, but the most common "example" should be extremely embarrassing for Muslims. It comes down to claiming a word that sounds like Muhammad in the Hebrew but actually means "wholly desirable" refers to Muhammad. See a Christian article on the topic and a Muslim one.

In contrast, many prophecies in the Old Testament or Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) were clearly fulfilled by Jesus, though only some are acknowledged by most Muslims. (For the Christian perspective, see The Ultimate Guide to Old Testament Prophecies Jesus Christ Fulfilled and a video on the many amazing predictions of Pslam 22).

What Next?

Jesus was sinless, miracle-working, and born of a virgin. He clearly fulfilled prophecy, whereas any honest Muslim could quickly find that there were no prophecies about Muhammad in the Bible. Most Muslims don't read the Bible, but if you want to hear what Jesus had to say for himself, you should. In case your imam has told you that the Bible has been corrupt, however, see why the Gospels can be trusted as astoundingly well-preserved historical accounts here.
