What to Do as a New Christian

You believe that it is true, but where to start!

Personal Development

You should start by doing these things:

  • Turn from your sins. No sex, porn, drugs, lying, cruelty, etc. And when you sin, ask for forgiveness.
  • Do good things! Help those in need. Worship the Lord. Show loving kindness to fellow believers.
  • When you are tempted or struggling with something, be as strong as you can and call on the Lord for help.
  • Pray regularly. Try The Lord's Prayer, Psalm 23, or Psalm 19.
  • Read the Bible often, and appreciate it! It contains some of the living God's words, so you should value it highly.
  • Find good company and good teachers to influence you in the right way and encourage your faith.
  • Increase in knowledge by learning some of proofs for Christianity and talking to other believers about why they believe.

Remember that we must be persistent and patient. All pain and suffering will pass away if we are counted worthy.

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

Galatians 6:9

See 2 Peter 1:5–11 and Galatians 5:21–23 for virtues to pray for and work towards.

Finding a Church

Unfortunately, error and deception abound in "churches" all over the world. You will have to keep learning the Bible and comparing what you see and hear to what is true for certain. It may be a struggle to find a group of Christians who are faithful, but you are instructed not to neglect meeting with other Christians, and you ought to be having communion, worshipping God, and showing love for one another. If you cannot find a church that is acceptable but do those things with a group at home, you have your church. Nevertheless, do not isolate yourself among few unless you have to.

There are biblical standards for who you must not associate with (e.g., 1 Corinthians 5:11), so if you go to a church which welcomes so-called homosexual Christians, or where the pastor pursues dishonest gain, etc., you should leave. Take others with you if you can.
