Why hasn't God shown himself miraculously to you personally, if he is real? The question is normally actually an accusation or a demand. The most important question is, if you knew there were fair reasons, would you accept them? If so, please consider these possibilities:

- Could God be testing his created beings, including you? He may want you to look for him, rather than simply having your demand for a miracle met.
- Could he reveal Himself more plainly to some people and more subtly to others because of a plan he has in mind that works out best for everyone?
- Consider that he may not speak directly to mankind in general and people in particular because of our poor behavior, and the consequences of the disobedience of the first man.
- It is easy to understand that there is a God, but like a man who refuses to believe his "good for nothing" brother could have done the nice thing he has heard he did, so you may refuse to accept that the world we live in is clearly the creation of an all-powerful and good being.

Always remember that if there is a God (there is), then he knows better than you, and there can be no question about it. A being with the understanding and intelligence to create the entire universe, from the quark to the moon and stars, does not make mistakes.

Hopefully, this question no longer makes you feel justified in dismissing God, as though He owes you revelation and is disproven otherwise.


If God Is Real, Where Is He?


## If Absolute Morality, God?

There is an argument for God that goes like this: You know that you are obliged to do good and not bad, no matter what anyone says, whether you are a coal miner or a king. This authority to command every person this way, regardless of power or rank, must be from God. If there is no God, then really, everybody is free to get away with what they can, and there is nothing truly wrong, since we are our own rulers.

## Is Morality Relative?

If morality is relative, then cannibalism is okay. It really is that simple. If you believe that cannibalism truly is wrong and that we all know this is absolutely true somehow, you do not believe in moral relativism.

Still, how can one answer the charge that there is no sense in saying there is a Moral Law, as different cultures have different moral standards? Quite easily, in fact. It is never said that we obey the Moral Law perfectly. That much is very clear. We all know it, and we have all failed to keep it, so it is no surprise that an entire culture could develop bad habits, just as a person does. It is consequently no trouble to account for cannibalism being tolerated culturally, though it is evil.

## Evolutionary Morality

The irrational forces of physics and natural selection cannot tell us anything true about how we *ought* to behave, since nature can't know anything, let alone have a purpose for us, so any evolution-based morality could justifiably be ignored. Thus, the evolutionary view denies the real Moral Law and argues for relative morality. Believe this, and you believe that betrayal of your own children is not really wrong; you just feel guilty because of your programming.

## The Human Flourishing View

Sam Harris has said that science can tell us how to act morally. According to Sam, it is very clear: Science can determine how to maximize wellbeing for everyone. But who decided wellbeing is important? The thief can say, "No thanks, I'll just keep stealing and getting away with it," and Sam has nothing solid to appeal to, because there can be no authoritative Moral Law on atheism. Sam just doesn’t like theft, but the thief is not violating anything more important than human preferences, apparently.

> If we ask: “Why ought I to be unselfish?” and you reply “Because it is good for society,” we may then ask, “Why should I care what’s good for society except when it happens to pay me personally?” and then you will have to say, “Because you ought to be unselfish”—which simply brings us back to where we started.”

## Is An All-Powerful God Illogical?

It is often assumed that God is a ridiculous concept, in which case of course he cannot be proven. However, the main objections come from people who have not actually looked for answers to them, as countless videos, books, and articles satisfactorily address these concerns. The main things that crop up are the [problem of evil](/beliefs/christianity#how-could-a-perfect-god-allow-evil), treating an all-powerful God who created the universe as though he is more of a Greek god, attacking the idea that he could have [no beginning](/articles/the-first-cause), and insisting that [nothing beyond matter exists](/article/the-argument-from-reason). ## How Could God Be Proven?

There are several ways God can be proven to a person:

1. Ordinary observations and reason.
1. Philosophical arguments.
1. Personally experienced miracles.
1. Miracles proven true by investigation.

### Ordinary Observations and Reason

God is as plain as the nose on your face to lots of people. They see the world and recognize that a being with incredible power and intelligence built it all, and that he is good.

### Arguments

There are very strong arguments for the existence of God which have been around forever; see [Proofs of God's Existence](/articles/proofs-of-gods-existence).

### Miracles Experienced Directly

Most people would agree that a miracle seen with one's own eyes would be strong evidence for God, especially if it had a clear connection to a certain context. You might be surprised how many people you have met believe they have seen a miracle. Try asking around.

### Miracles Proven True by Investigation

To many, this will sound impossible. After all, how can you prove something completely unbelievable? But that is just it. Even if you saw a miracle yourself, if you believe they are impossible, you would be obliged to dismiss it. Yet if you get away from your unreasonable bias, you will realize that a miracle is the best explanation for the evidence from certain events.

No One Can Prove God


"Religion is the opiate of the masses," goes the famous saying. It is a widely shared sentiment indeed among intellectuals today that religion is a tool used by those in power to either deviously manipulate the populous or keep order among them. At the same time, some popular intellectuals have come to believe that without religion or "spirituality," there is something truly missing in life.

It is common to lean on negative feelings and very small amounts of information when reaching conclusions about God and religion, and this is what I did as a teenager. However, we cannot reach the truth through ignorance, and there are some very serious arguments in favor of God and against the modern paradigm of the Big Bang and evolution which simply are not discussed or given the time of day in the minds of angry young people, nor in many classrooms. I encourage you to look into these things with more seriousness than anything else, since your entire way of living and understanding of everything depends on the answers.

You would also do well to note that the approval of intellectuals feels great, but it is not always a good thing. From Albert Einstein fudging his equations to hide that the Universe seems to be expanding,[^1] to experts in the US trying to breed out undesirables from society 100 years ago,[^2]<sup>,</sup>[^3], to many scientists today claiming that infants in the womb can be killed without guilt,[^4] scientists have been on the wrong side of things many times, as have lawyers, doctors, etc. It can be hard to accept that people whose intelligence you admire are clinging to a lie or promote evil, yet it certainly happens.

## Clearing Up Misconceptions

Contrary to the idea that science is and has always been engaged in a battle against “ignorant religion,” science as we know it was largely a result of Christians centuries ago believing that God has made an ordered, decipherable universe, and that it is a privilege to search out its mysteries. Accordingly, most truly pioneering scientists believed in God, and not passively. A number of them wrote about how their love for the Creator spurred on their work. In addition, the common objections to God are historical arguments based on _atheists' interpretations_ of the scientific data, and there are far more reasonable interpretations that are in support of God.

## Evolution and the First Life 🦠

- Life is too well integrated and complex to come about without intentional design. Expecting life to arise by chance is stranger than expecting a very complex skyscraper to form naturally.
- Scientists have not settled on a theory for the origin of life, because frankly, as a former biochemist myself, the atheist explanations are embarrassing.
- The fossil evidence for evolution is not just lacking, but shows the opposite to what evolutionists want: new forms of life appear suddenly in the fossil record, rather than in slow transitions.
- The "genetic evidence" for evolution is generally circular: it insists that evolution is true because creatures that are genetically similar must be evolutionarily related, but why isn't this just proof that the creator used similar parts for different life forms?

## The Origin of the Universe (The Big Bang)

- If the Big Bang happened, what caused it?
- When the Big Bang first became widely known, atheists knew what it meant: that matter had a beginning, so it also had a cause. This made it very unpopular for a time.
- The inventor of the Big Bang theory was a Catholic priest: Georges Lemaître.
- The Big Bang is also rife with scientific problems, some of which require completely fudging equations to maintain a working model.

## Geology

- Radiometric dating has been proven to be unreliable. Samples of rocks with known ages (laid down by volcanic eruptions) have returned "ages" in the hundreds of thousands and millions of years.
- Rock layers are not always laid down one at a time. Volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, etc., have shown that many layers of rock can be laid down in one event.
- Noah's flood best explains many features of geology that cannot be explained without a massive catastrophe, such as marine rock being found all over continents, sedimentary rock (normally deposited by water) covering most of the land on Earth, marine fossils on high mountains, and no signs of erosion on layer upon layer of rock.

Science Proves God Isn't Real

The argument that there are too many religions to find a true one, if it exists, is often used to say that all religions must be false, since it would be unfair and unreasonable to expect people to find the true religion (if that matters to God). However, this argument makes several unreasonable assumptions:

1. *There is not a religion that stands apart enough to be spotted by all.* If you do not think Christianity stands apart, you are kidding yourself. For starters, how many focus on the creator of the Universe, rather than worshipping material things (the Sun, the Moon, etc.) or gods who are really more like superheroes?
2. *God does not provide extra help to those in difficult circumstances.* There is an interesting phenomenon taking place right now: many Muslims are having dreams about Jesus Christ. Coincidence?
3. *God does not judge fairly.* But of course, if it would be too hard for some to find Him due to circumstances, would we not expect God to judge accordingly?

In other cases, people believe that if there is any truth in religion, it must be somewhere in the middle. However, if God wanted people to have a real chance at knowing the truth, would he leave them with no certainty? Moreover, most of the major claims of different religions are completely opposed to each other, so there is no middle ground.
